My New Job- Event Coordinator

I don't know about you guys, but I hate not working. I always feel this burden on my shoulders when  I don't have a job. It's not because I feel like I should be contributing to society or paying taxes or anything like that; it's because I have an ever growing list of things I want to buy. And when I don't have a job, I can't buy all those things! It's a horrible, depressing cycle.

This is not me.

So, when I graduated, I was earning a bit of money here and there by babysitting, tutoring, nannying, etc- all while going on auditions. I really started to hate the flexibility of it all. Sure, it gave me a lot of free time (which I spent doing nothing), but I wanted something stable, something to build on for the future. So what did I do? I went on Craigslist! I spent weeks searching and applying for jobs, hearing nothing back. Then, lo and behold, I got an interview for an event planning company!

I'll plan your wedding and NOT steal the groom!

The invitation to interview said specifically to 'wear what you would wear to meet a client'. A sartorial challenge! Excellent! I took it as my first test. I read the rest of the email to see if I could figure out any other clues about what to wear. The first clue- it was a group interview held in a park. What did that tell me? FLATS. No way was I gonna be the one to lose a heel in mushy grass. Also, I decided to go bold and assume everyone would be wearing impeccable, if not dark, business suits. So I decided on my bright yellow blazer! Professional, and yet you know something about me right away.

What I wore to Book the Job

Basically, I nailed it at the interview ;) (and had a lot of fun with the other interviewees  It really was a tough competition). I was asked back for a second interview that same night and offered the job! So today marks the one month anniversary of me becoming an Event Coordinator at Moments by Wayne!

I couldn't be happier. I've done event coordination in the past, and I love it! I'm very proud to be on the team of such an illustrious company as well. We focus on high-end weddings and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. We have just been named the Number 1 Wedding Planner in Los Angeles, Number 1 Wedding Planner in California, and made it into the Top 10 Wedding Planners in the United States by Wedding Industry Experts. I'm very excited to see where this goes, and am equally excited to have a job in a creative field! Check out our website, Pinterest, Twitter, and Facebook.

Love the Arts? Check Out This New Kickstarter!

Hey Party People!

I know that everyone on the blogosphere is creative and aesthetically inclined. Otherwise, why devote yourself to a social media that's designed to share, inspire, and create trends! We love creativity, uniqueness, and individuality... and so I'm sharing something that's a little different that what I usually talk about.

As some of you may know, my father is an Oscar Winning Special Effects Artist. He won his Oscar for Death Becomes Her, was nominated for Starship Troopers, and even created the animals in Jumanji and Zookeeper.

Now, after over 20 years in the business, my dad wants to create a labor of love, so he started a Kickstarter! He's raising funds for his brainchild Harbinger Down

So Here's the Deets:

WHAT: "In the spirit of sci-fi/horror classics, Alien and The Thing, Harbinger Down is a tense, claustrophobic full-length creature film that will feature only practical Animatronic and Makeup Effects."

WHO: "Our little movie's crew actually has 10 Oscar nominations, and 4 wins! It just gets better and better." -Including Pat McClung, Dennis and Bob Skotak, Lance Henrikson, Tom Woodruff Jr, and of course, my good ol' papa, Alec Gillis!

WHAT'S THE STORY? "A group of grad students have booked passage on the fishing trawler Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship's crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without mutation.
Now the crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms. And after being locked in ice for 3 decades, the creatures aren't about to give up the warmth of human companionship."
Please check it out here and donate! If it's not your cup of tea, send to family and friends, share on Facebook and your Blogs, and get the word out! Trust me, someone you know will LOVE this! :)

Thanks for your support!

{I Know I'm Tardy to the} Oscar Party!

The Oscars were pretty fun this year. Even though they were two months ago, I still love to brag about my night! Here are a few pics:

Trendsetter... a fur vest to the Oscars!

Dad got flour on his tux. He was using flour to try to blot up the blood he got on his white shirt. Hence my disapproving look.

The wind made it feel like a real photoshoot.

I call this one "Anne Hathaway: A Study on False Modesty"

Meanwhile, Mama was dressed like Hush Puppy.

Jealous sisters...

Once we arrived, we proceeded onto the red carpet where we were herded along in a crowd of other lucky nobodies.

That's Adele and Jenifer Lawrence talking.... and an indication of how far our seats were!

 And here's Seth!

 Mugging for the camera, duh.

 Some glamorous red carpet shots.
 My girl Adele.

The tiniest hamburger with the tiniest pickle at the Governer's ball.

 Me and my BFF Amanda.

 Daddy, Devon, and Oscar.

Aren't we just the cutest! P.S. This picture was taken right before I met Daniel Radcliffe....

Oscar Dress Wishlist

Last year, my sister went to the Oscars. This time around, it's my turn! I'm on a limited budget, so my dress won't be anything too spectacular, but that didn't stifle my imagination. I've been daydreaming and web browsing and came up with a few dresses that I would love to wear... if I had the funds.
Oscar Dreaming pt 1

Oscar Dreaming pt 2

Oscar Dreaming pt 3

Oscar Dreaming pt 4

Oscar Dreaming pt 5

These are all so beautiful! Sometimes I think I will only ever work to buy things as beautiful as these... American dream, right? :)

Meet LouLou!

My sister Camille went to New Orleans to meet her boyfriend's newborn nephew and came back with...

LouLou!

LouLou (short for Louisiana) is a mini Schnauzer. She's three months old, weighs 2 pounds, and is extremely rambunctious. She loves her little Snoopy toy, playing with Zain, and chewing on anything that is about head height.

 True love!

 She loves the camera, too.
